Greetings from Australia. I was born in East Ely in 1947 and lived in Ruth and
East Ely until 1962 when we moved to California. I can remember the houses at

We have lived in Australia for the past 19 years and visited Ely about 5 year
ago on a visit back to America. Despite me being overseas for more than half my

Been through Ely before, lived in NV for 2 years in the 60's, Stead AFB. Likely
stop in with son to "drive" diesel engine, a great opportunity. Several years

but am discouraged at the political tilt to Las Vegas! May plan next year to put

walks downtown in the cold November air.

I LOVE ELY!! Ever since I was a young kid we always passed through Ely and
stayed the night, sometimes in Hotel Nevada or The Jailhouse or sometimes just
Motel 6. I always wanted to stay more than just one night like we usually did
but I wasent the one driving or paying. I havent been through since summer 2001
but I plan on coming through with my wife in 2006 sometime. I like the small
town ambiance. Last time in Ely my wife and I attended Mass at the small
catholic church right by the Hotel Nevada and the people were very friendly.
Although we have travelled all over even to such facinating cities such as Paris
and Madrid, Ely still retains a special place in my heart as somewhere where you
can get back to the quiet life. Thanks and See You Soon!! Sean Richmond. Houston

I have been exploring Nevada for many years and, without question, the Ely area
is the one of the most interesting in all of Nevada. Wheeler Peak and the Great
Basin Park rival anything in the west -- and the greatest thing is that there is
virtually never a crowd. Ely is a great place to stop -- I think the author,
Stephen King spent time there and probably based one of his novels in the area
(Misery??). The Nevada Hotel (an historic landmark) and the Jailhouse are both
fine bedtime places suitable for all tastes and are located in the central area
of the city. I shall forever be a fan of Ely. It can be cold in the winter
season but that just adds to the charm.

This is a response to Dave Bunge in the previous e-mail. I apologize for not
including a map of White Pine County with this site. We used to have one but it
was unintentionally omitted in the last re-design. You can find a good map to
the Nevada Northern Railway on msn.com at the following exact address:
http://mappoint.msn.com/(sixukh2wellzzo45ggr1viuu)/map.aspx?L=USA&C=39.25896%2c-114.86895&A=7.16667&P=|39.25896%2c-114.86895|1|1100+Avenue+A%2c+Ely%2c+NV+89301|L1|
You can zoom in and out on this map as necessary. I'll work on getting this
posted on the site ASAP. We look forward to your visit to our community.

I started travelling to Ely in 1949 to visit my cousins the Grows.Back then ranching and mining were going strong and Ely,Mc Gill,Ruth, and the surrounding area were prosperous.I got to know some excellent people in and around Ely like the Echeverry family, the Henroids, and coach Angelo Collis.
I last visited the Grows there in 1956.In 1995 I came back through White Pine county to see how you'd managed with the Kennecott closure.Fortunately you did a great job recovering from that harsh economic blow and I congratulate you.My son recently visited Ely and was also impressed.
I hope I get to visit you again soon.
Date: 08 Feb 2005Time: 05:27:27CommentsI grew up in Ely and was trying to locate the website for the Ely Times, but it won't come up. I am impressed with your site. It was nice to see home again. I live in GA. now but probably leaving for TX. soon. Please email me with a workable website for the times if you can.
Thank You

Date: 29 Dec 2004Time: 05:24:55CommentsI have many fond memories of time spent in Ely visiting my cousins in the 1940's and 50's.In fact several cousins graduated from White Pine High School, and my cousin Gerry Grow played football for the famous Angelo Collis.Coach Collis teams beat the much larger Las Vegas so often they finally hired him away.A high school football field in Las Vegas is named for him.

Date: 20 Jul 2004Time: 17:43:22CommentsThe site is pretty good but with the housing, it doesn't have ANYTHING that says there is PROPERTY for sale. Just homes. I'd like to have info on the price of an acre and where you can get it and where you can see MAPS of the property so I don't have to first DRIVE there to look around. Also, there are NO pictures of the camping areas nor the elevations. I sure don't wanna TOAST while camping or I'll go to UTAH.

Date: 24 Oct 2003Time: 17:49:26CommentsYou never know what you had till it's gone. I grew up in Ely and after being out in the world and hearing and seeing how others grew up and where they grew up, I thank God I had the opportunity to grow up and have such awesome memories. The friends I had.
Please include more pictures on your site. Seeing the beauty I grew up with makes it easier to bare being away. I'd also like to see pictures of people who live there. People I might have grown up with. After all it's the awesome people of Ely who made it such a great place to have lived. I'll be back for my Class reunion in 2004.
