White Pine County's outdoor recreation is
unparalleled.
There is plenty to choose from.
Climb majestic Mount Wheeler that is 13,000 feet in elevation, or
visit the Great Basin National Park on the County's eastern
border. Fly fish at Cave Lake State Park (which boasts the state
record 27 pound German Brown Trout) fourteen miles southeast of Ely,
or ski at the Ward Mountain Recreation Area and Trail System,
just six miles from the Ely City limits.
Spend an afternoon
rock hounding at Garnet Hill. Picnic or camp in one of the area's
developed campgrounds. Watch, photograph, or hunt the state's
largest elk herd, second largest mule deer herd, and third largest
antelope herd. Head for the hills to camp, hike, or fish in any of
our streams and you're likely to have an entire mountain to
yourself.

White Pine County offers activities for
all ages and interests. Community recreational facilities include an
18 hole golf course, neighborhood parks, an "ole swimming
hole" natural warm springs fed pond in McGill indoor and
outdoor archery ranges, shooting sports complex, and groomed cross
country ski trails. Young people enjoy Girl Scouts and Boy
Scouts, 4-H Little League baseball, softball, Youth Soccer,
Junior Jazz Basketball, and a summer youth recreation program.
Adults can participate in bowling and softball leagues,
fitness programs, civic groups, special interest clubs, or volunteer
to help run the City's vintage steam locomotive. |

horse shows, the County Fair, Arts In The Park, golf and softball
tournaments, car and motorcycle races.

all year
and a wide temperature swing every day. Summertime temperatures are generally in the 80
to 90 degree range during the day and fall to 45 degrees at night. Winter temperatures
range from 30 to 50 degrees during the day, and fall below 0 about 10 to 20 times per
year. |
